Bactria
Bactria was a region of Central Asia between the Hindu Kush and the Amu Darya, in present-day northern Afghanistan and neighbouring countries. It was a wealthy satrapy of the Achaemenid and Seleucid empires until its Greek governors broke away to form the Greco-Bactrian kingdom in the third century BCE. It was later affected by nomadic migrations set in motion by the Xiongnu.
