Bacon's Rebellion
Bacon's Rebellion was an armed uprising in the Colony of Virginia in 1676, led by the planter Nathaniel Bacon against Governor William Berkeley. Frontier settlers, angered by the governor's refusal to wage war on Native peoples after raids linked to the displaced Susquehannock, attacked Native communities and in September burned Jamestown. The revolt collapsed after Bacon died of disease in October 1676.
