Virginia
Virginia is a region on the Atlantic coast of North America, named in honour of Queen Elizabeth I. The colony founded at Jamestown in 1607 was the first permanent English settlement in America. Its tobacco plantations, worked increasingly by enslaved Africans, made it a central part of the early British Empire in the Atlantic.
