Parthia
Parthia was a region in north-eastern Iran, south-east of the Caspian Sea, which was a satrapy of the Achaemenid and Seleucid empires. Around 247 BCE the Parni under Arsaces I seized it, founding the Parthian state. The rise of Parthia stripped the Seleucid Empire of its eastern provinces and later challenged the successor states of the Macedonian Empire.
