Eze Nri
Eze Nri was the title of the priest-king of Nri, an Igbo sacred kingdom in south-eastern Nigeria. The Eze Nri held ritual rather than military authority: his agents travelled widely to cleanse abominations, settle disputes, crown titled men and bless the yam harvest. Tradition names Ifikuanim as the first holder, and the office survived, with diminished power, under British rule.
