Falkland Islands Company

1851– · 19th century

The Falkland Islands Company is a British trading company incorporated by royal charter in 1851 to develop the Falkland Islands. It became the islands' largest landowner and employer, running sheep farms that exported wool to Britain, as well as shipping and the main stores in Stanley. Its dominance shaped the colony's economy for more than a century, until it sold most of its farmland in the late 20th century.
