11th century · 11th century

Fariburz I was Shirvanshah, ruler of Shirvan in present-day Azerbaijan, in the second half of the eleventh century. During his reign the Seljuk Turks advanced into the Caucasus, and he accepted Seljuk overlordship and paid tribute to keep his throne. He belonged to the Persianised line of Shirvanshahs that modern historians call the Kasranids.
