Farouk of Egypt

1920–1965 · 20th century · Also known as King Farouk

Farouk was king of Egypt from 1936 to 1952, a member of the Muhammad Ali dynasty. His reign was marked by British interference, including the Abdeen Palace incident of 1942, defeat in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and growing public anger at corruption. The Free Officers forced him to abdicate in July 1952, and he died in exile in Rome.
