Farrukhsiyar

1685–1719 · 18th century

Farrukhsiyar was a Mughal emperor who ruled from 1713 to 1719, a son of Azim-ush-Shan and grandson of Bahadur Shah I. He won the throne with the help of the Sayyid brothers, Abdullah Khan and Husain Ali Khan, who then dominated his government. In 1717 he granted the English East India Company a farman exempting its trade in Bengal from customs duties, and in 1719 the Sayyids deposed, blinded and killed him.
