Fausto Sozzini

1539–1604 · 16th century · Also known as Faustus Socinus

Fausto Sozzini was an Italian theologian from Siena whose Antitrinitarian teaching gave its name to Socinianism. He settled in Poland in 1579 and became the leading thinker of the Polish Brethren, whose Racovian Catechism, published at Raków in 1605, reflected his rational approach to scripture and influenced later Enlightenment ideas of religious toleration.
