Person
Ferdinand I of Naples
Ferdinand I, known as Ferrante, was King of Naples from 1458 to 1494, the illegitimate son of Alfonso V of Aragon. He defeated a baronial revolt backed by the Angevin claimant early in his reign and crushed the Conspiracy of the Barons in 1485 to 1486. His shrewd and ruthless rule made Naples a major Italian power and a centre of Renaissance learning.
