Philip I of Taranto

1278–1331 · 14th century

Philip I of Taranto was an Angevin prince, son of Charles II of Naples, who received the Principality of Taranto in 1294. He also held the Angevin claims to the Kingdom of Albania and the Principality of Achaea and, through his marriage to Catherine of Valois, the title of Latin emperor of Constantinople. His efforts to expand in the Balkans and Greece achieved little.
