Fernando Henrique Cardoso
Fernando Henrique Cardoso is a Brazilian sociologist and politician who was president of Brazil from 1995 to 2002. As finance minister in 1993–1994 he introduced the Real Plan, which ended decades of hyperinflation, and its success carried him to the presidency. In office he privatised state companies and stabilised the economy; earlier, as a scholar, he had helped develop dependency theory.
