Fletcher Christian

1764–1793 · 18th century

Fletcher Christian was an English sailor, master's mate of HMS Bounty, who led the mutiny against Captain William Bligh in the South Pacific in April 1789. After setting Bligh adrift, he took the ship with eight other mutineers and a group of Tahitian men and women to uninhabited Pitcairn Island, where they burned the Bounty in 1790. He was killed there in 1793 in violence between the settlers.
