Florida
Florida is a peninsula and state in the south-eastern United States, between the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. Named by Juan Ponce de León in 1513, it was a Spanish colony from the founding of St. Augustine in 1565, British from 1763 to 1783 and Spanish again until Spain ceded it to the United States by the Adams–Onís Treaty of 1819. It became a state in 1845 after the Seminole Wars.
