Cuba

Cuba is the largest island of the Caribbean, colonised by Spain from the early sixteenth century. It remained one of the last colonies of the Spanish Empire until 1898, with a plantation economy built on enslaved African labour. Many enslaved Yoruba from the Oyo region were taken to Cuba, where their religion contributed to Santería.
