Foulques de Villaret

d. 1327 · 14th century

Foulques de Villaret was Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller from 1305 to 1319. Seeking a base of the order's own after the loss of the Holy Land, he began the conquest of Byzantine Rhodes in 1306, and the city fell around 1309-1310. His authoritarian rule led the knights to depose him, and he ended his days in France.
