Foulpointe
Foulpointe, in Malagasy Mahavelona, is a coastal town on the east coast of Madagascar north of Toamasina. In the 18th century it was a leading port of the Betsimisaraka coast, where French traders bought rice, cattle and slaves for the Mascarene Islands. After the Merina conquest of the east coast, a round stone fort was built there in the 19th century.
