Francesco II Sforza

1495–1535 · 16th century

Francesco II Sforza was the last Sforza duke of Milan, a son of Ludovico Sforza. Restored to the duchy in 1521 by Charles V after the French were driven out, he ruled under imperial protection during the Italian Wars and was briefly deposed after joining the League of Cognac in 1526. He died childless in 1535, and Charles V kept the duchy, later investing his son Philip.
