Franz Joseph II, Prince of Liechtenstein
Franz Joseph II was Prince of Liechtenstein from 1938 until his death, the first reigning prince to live permanently in the country, at Vaduz Castle. He kept Liechtenstein neutral in the Second World War, and during his long reign it grew from a poor farming state into a prosperous financial and industrial centre. In 1984 he handed day-to-day rule to his son Hans-Adam II.
