Front de libération du Québec

1963–1971 · 20th century · Also known as FLQ, Quebec Liberation Front

The Front de libération du Québec was a militant separatist group that sought Quebec independence through armed action. From 1963 it carried out bombings in Montreal and elsewhere. In the October Crisis of 1970 its cells kidnapped the British diplomat James Cross and the Quebec minister Pierre Laporte, who was murdered, and Pierre Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act.
