Fubing system

Also known as fubing

The fubing system was a militia system used in China from the Western Wei to the early Tang Dynasty, in which farming households provided soldiers in return for land. It supplied troops cheaply, but as frontier wars demanded permanent professional armies it broke down in the eighth century and was replaced by standing forces under military governors.
