Gabriel Carbillet

fl. 1923 · 20th century

Gabriel Carbillet was a French army officer who governed the Jabal Druze State under the French Mandate from 1923. His road-building, land reforms and use of forced labour, along with his attempts to weaken the Atrash chiefs, angered the Druze. The resentment helped provoke Sultan al-Atrash's rising in 1925, which became the Great Syrian Revolt.
