Jabal al-Druze

Also known as Jebel Druze, Jabal al-Arab, Jabal Druze

Jabal al-Druze is a volcanic upland in southern Syria, around Suwayda, settled mainly by Druze from the 18th century. Under the French mandate it formed a separate Druze state from 1921. The Great Syrian Revolt broke out there in 1925 under Sultan al-Atrash, and the region joined the Syrian Republic in 1936.
