Jabal Amil

Jabal Amil is a region in southern Lebanon with a long tradition of Shia scholarship. The Safavid Empire imported Arab Shia scholars from Jabal Amil and Bahrain to help convert Iran to Twelver Shia Islam. This religious transformation was one of the most lasting impacts of the Safavids.
