Bahrain
Bahrain is an island in the Persian Gulf. In antiquity it was probably part of Dilmun, a trading centre that linked Mesopotamia with the Indus valley in the time of the Akkadian Empire. In the early modern period it was disputed between Iranian and Portuguese, then Arab, powers, and Safavid Iran held it for much of the seventeenth century.
