Galata Tower

1348 · 14th century · Also known as Tower of Christ

The Galata Tower is a medieval stone tower in the Galata quarter of Istanbul. The Genoese built it in 1348 as the Tower of Christ, the highest point in the walls of their colony of Pera. Under the Ottomans it served as a lookout for fires, and it is now a museum and one of the city's landmarks.
