Garðar, Greenland
Garðar was the seat of the Norse bishops of Greenland, in the Eastern Settlement at the site of the modern village of Igaliku in southern Greenland. The first resident bishop, Arnald, arrived around 1126, and a cathedral dedicated to St Nicholas was built there beside a large farm. Bishops of Garðar continued to be appointed into the 16th century, though none lived there after the 14th century.
