Gascony
Gascony is a historic region of south-western France between the Garonne, the Pyrenees and the Atlantic. Its name derives from the Vascones, Basque-speaking people who extended their rule north of the Pyrenees in the late 6th century. A duchy from the 7th century, it passed with Aquitaine to the English crown in 1152 and was held by English kings until the French conquest of 1453.
