Gargano

Also known as Gargano Peninsula

The Gargano is a mountainous peninsula on the Adriatic coast of northern Apulia, forming the spur of the Italian boot. It is covered by the Foresta Umbra beech forest and since 1991 has been protected as a national park. In the Middle Ages its sanctuary of Saint Michael at Monte Sant'Angelo was among the most visited pilgrimage sites of Europe.
