Gaudavaho

8th century · 8th century · Also known as Gaudavadha

The Gaudavaho, 'the slaying of the Gauda king', is a Prakrit poem written in the 8th century by Vakpatiraja, court poet of Yashovarman of Kannauj. It celebrates Yashovarman's campaigns, including his victory over a king of Gauda and Magadha, though the slaying itself is only briefly described. The poem is an important source for north Indian history after Harsha and for Prakrit literature.
