Gaziantep

Also known as Aintab, Antep

Gaziantep, historically Aintab or Antep, is a city in south-eastern Turkey near the Syrian border. Occupied by British and then French troops after the First World War, it resisted a long French siege in 1920–1921 before surrendering in February 1921, and the Turkish parliament added the title Gazi, 'veteran', to its name in recognition. It is today a major industrial city, known for pistachios and its cuisine.
