Gosamaru

d. 1458 · 15th century

Gosamaru was a Ryukyuan lord and military commander of the fifteenth century, known for building the castle of Zakimi and strengthening Nakagusuku. In 1458 his rival Amawari, lord of Katsuren, accused him of plotting rebellion; royal forces attacked Nakagusuku and Gosamaru took his own life. Amawari's own revolt was then crushed, an episode later retold in Ryukyuan drama.
