Grand Council of French West Africa
The Grand Council of French West Africa was a federal assembly created in 1947 and sitting in Dakar, made up of councillors elected by the territorial assemblies of the federation's colonies. It voted the federal budget and gave African politicians a voice in federal affairs. Its role declined after the 1956 reforms shifted power to the territories, and it disappeared with the federation in 1959.
