Great Law of Peace
The Great Law of Peace is the oral constitution of the Haudenosaunee, or Iroquois Confederacy. Tradition credits it to the Peacemaker, Deganawida, and Hiawatha, who persuaded the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga and Seneca to end their feuds and join a league, usually dated to the 15th century. It set out the Grand Council of chiefs and the role of clan mothers.
