Guaraní people
The Guaraní are an indigenous people of South America, living in Paraguay and neighbouring parts of Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia. Spanish settlers at Asunción allied with them from the 1530s, taking Guaraní wives and labour, and from 1609 Jesuit missionaries gathered many of them into mission towns. Their language remains widely spoken in Paraguay.
