Guillermo Lasso

1955– · 20th century

Guillermo Lasso is an Ecuadorian banker and centre-right politician who was president from 2021 to 2023. His government ran a rapid COVID-19 vaccination campaign but faced mass protests, prison massacres and rising crime. Facing impeachment, in May 2023 he dissolved the National Assembly under the constitutional clause known as muerte cruzada, which forced early elections in which he did not stand.
