Guo (state)

c. 1046–655 BCE · 11th century BCE

Guo was the name of several states of Zhou-period China ruled by kinsmen of the Zhou royal house, descended from younger brothers of King Wen. Eastern Guo, near modern Xingyang in Henan, was destroyed by the State of Zheng around 767 BCE, while Western Guo, later based at Shangyang near modern Sanmenxia, was conquered by Jin in 655 BCE after Jin marched through the territory of Yu. Its dukes served as senior ministers at the Zhou court.
