Ha Giang province
Ha Giang was a mountainous province in the far north of Vietnam, bordering China, with a population largely of ethnic minorities such as the Hmong and Tày. Its Vi Xuyen district saw heavy border fighting with China between 1984 and 1989. In 2025 it was merged into Tuyên Quang province as part of a national reform of provinces.
