Hans Egede
Hans Egede was a Norwegian Lutheran missionary who sailed to Greenland in 1721 hoping to find the descendants of the medieval Norse settlers. Finding only Inuit, he founded a mission and trading post at Godthåb (Nuuk) in 1728 and learned their language. His work began Danish-Norwegian colonisation of Greenland, and he is known as the Apostle of Greenland.
