Harishena (Vakataka dynasty)

reigned c. 475–500 · 5th century

Harishena was the last known king of the Vatsagulma branch of the Vakataka dynasty, ruling in the late 5th century. Inscriptions claim conquests across central and southern India, and his reign was the high point of Vakataka power. His minister Varahadeva and other nobles sponsored many of the finest caves at Ajanta. Soon after him the dynasty disappears from the record.
