Hats (party)
The Hats were one of the two political parties of Sweden's Age of Liberty, dominated by the nobility and officers and in power from 1738 to 1765. They favoured mercantilist economic policies and an alliance with France aimed at reversing Swedish losses to Russia, which led to the disastrous war of 1741–1743 and to participation in the Seven Years' War. Their rivals were the Caps.
