Hell-Ville

Also known as Andoany

Hell-Ville, officially Andoany, is the main town of the island of Nosy Be off north-western Madagascar. It was named after Admiral Anne Chrétien Louis de Hell, governor of Bourbon (Réunion), under whom France took possession of Nosy Be in 1841. It is a port and the centre of the island's tourism and of its production of vanilla, sugar and the perfume plant ylang-ylang.
