Henry of the Palatinate

1487–1552 · 16th century

Henry of the Palatinate, a Wittelsbach prince, was bishop of Utrecht from 1524 to 1529 and later of Worms and Freising. Unable to defend his lands against the Duke of Guelders and rebels in Utrecht, he transferred his temporal power to Emperor Charles V in 1528. The prince-bishopric's lands became the Habsburg Lordships of Utrecht and Overijssel.
