IJssel

The IJssel is a river of the Netherlands, a branch of the Rhine that leaves it near Arnhem and flows about 125 kilometres north past Zutphen, Deventer and Kampen into the IJsselmeer. In the Middle Ages it was a major trade route, and the Hanseatic towns along its banks became some of the richest in the northern Low Countries.
