Himilce

3rd century BCE · 3rd century BCE · Also known as Imilce

Himilce, also called Imilce, was an Iberian woman from Castulo, in the upper Guadalquivir valley, who married the Carthaginian general Hannibal. Livy records that Hannibal's wife came from Castulo, and the poet Silius Italicus gives her name. The marriage reflects the way the Barcid family bound the leading Iberian communities to Carthaginian rule.
