Hinda dynasty

Also known as Bahinda

The Hinda dynasty, or Bahinda, was a royal clan that ruled several kingdoms of the African Great Lakes region, including Ankole in Uganda and Karagwe, Ihangiro, Kyamutwara and Kianja among the Haya states of north-western Tanzania. Its traditions trace it to Ruhinda, said to have inherited part of the realm of the Chwezi around the 15th century. Its kingdoms were abolished in Tanzania in 1963 and in Uganda in 1967.
