Babiito dynasty

Also known as Babito, Bito dynasty

The Babiito are the ruling dynasty of the Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara in western Uganda. According to tradition they were Luo-speaking newcomers from the north who succeeded the legendary Chwezi around 1500. Branches of the dynasty ruled other kingdoms of the region, including Kiziba and later Toro, and the omukama of Bunyoro still comes from the family.
