Babemba Traoré
Babemba Traoré was the last king of Kénédougou, ruling from Sikasso in present-day Mali from 1893. He succeeded his brother Tieba, who had allied with the French, but refused French demands to accept a garrison. When a French column stormed Sikasso on 1 May 1898 after a long siege, Babemba chose death rather than capture, and his kingdom was absorbed into French Sudan.
