Person
Babatu
Babatu was a leader of the Zabarma, horsemen from the Niger region who had come to northern Ghana as mercenaries in the Dagomba country and turned to slave raiding. Under his command in the 1880s and 1890s they ravaged the Grunshi lands and the Wa area. French and British advances in the late 1890s broke his power, and he spent his last years in Dagomba.
